Improving the quality of life of terminally ill patients and their families
The Department of Palliative Care at Bhaktivedanta Hospital & Research Institute was incepted in 2007. Since then, it has been focused on serving the terminally ill patients in and around the suburbs & outlying rural areas of Mumbai.
Palliative care is provided by a multidisciplinary team of experts to cater to physical, mental, emotional and spiritual needs of the patients. The team consists of doctors, nurses, counsellors, social workers, chaplain, psychologists, physiotherapist etc.
We offer Palliative Care to not only cancer patients but also to patients with serious illnesses, such as paralysis, lung diseases, Parkinson's, etc. Here the goal of treatment is not to cure the disease but to improve the quality of life of patient. Care can be provided at the comfort of home, in the hospital or in the hospice.
Bhaktivedanta Hospital & Research Institute also runs a hospice at Swami Shraddhanand Hospital in Vasai. It is in a scenic place on a hillock surrounded by lake. Patient receives quality care by the doctors, trained nurses and support staff and at the same time can be surrounded by pleasant atmosphere to enliven their hearts. This is an ideal place for respite care wherein the relatives of patients who face challenges in providing proper care can acquire short-term admissions for their loved ones to recuperate.
