Celebrating World Hospice and Palliative Care Day - 2024

We are delighted to share that World Hospice and Palliative Care Day (WHPCD)-2024 was celebrated at Bhaktivedanta Hospital & Research Institute on 27th October 2024.

The event was graced by the presence of patients, their relatives, volunteers, well-wishers, consultants, and distinguished dignitaries from our institute.

The program began with the Institute’s prayer and Shri Ganesh Vandana, beautifully performed by one of our volunteers. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Dr. Mahesh Menon, Palliative Care Consultant at Reliance Foundation Hospital, Mumbai, and the Guest of Honor was Mr. Stan Serrao, MD of Welocity Genetics, Mumbai.

Volunteers and select guests were honored for their unwavering support to patients and their families. An awareness presentation on Palliative Care was delivered by Dr. Umesh Gujjar, Medical Officer in the Department of Palliative Care. The program also featured speeches and demonstrations on the benefits of Music Therapy and Sound Therapy, which captivated the audience.

A poignant moment of the event was when some family members shared their heartfelt experiences of navigating the challenges of their loved ones’ illnesses. They expressed their gratitude for the compassionate guidance and support provided by the Department of Palliative Care during these difficult times, especially in the final stages of their journey.

Dr. Mahesh Menon delivered an inspiring speech on the importance of Palliative Care, while Guest of Honor, Mr. Stan Serrao, raised awareness about genetic testing and its role in preventing major illnesses.

During the event, Mr. Stan Serrao presented an “Appreciation Certificate” to Dr. Umesh Gujjar for his dedicated and compassionate service to terminally ill patients and their families. A compiled book titled “Collection of Feedback Received for Our Palliative Care”, authored by Dr. Gujjar, was also released by the dignitaries.

The event concluded with a heartfelt lamp offering ceremony, conducted in memory of departed souls and for the well-being of patients under treatment. The ceremony included a special prayer for the Kartik month, led by the Department of Spiritual Care.

The program was filled with emotion and served as a significant platform for raising awareness about Palliative Care. The event was deeply appreciated by all attendees for its meaningful impact.
